Leon Phillips, 89, of Peru, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
Leon was born on December 20, 1935, to Paul and Berniece (Sawhill) Phillips. He started school in Peru and graduated from Truro High School in 1954. He lived his entire lifetime around the Peru area.
On August 15, 1965, Leon and Donna Lee Warren were married at the Truro Methodist Church. They were blessed with two sons, Paul Chester Phillips (Chet), and Clayton Dana Phillips (Clay).
Leon retired from the tire industry, working 40 years at Armstrong, and ending at Titan Tire, after the company went through various name changes over the years.
He raised Appaloosa horses, and had belonged to the Appaloosa Club. He loved nothing more than spending time on his 100-acre farm. He also loved riding ATV’s, and his dog would ride along with him. Leon was a current member of SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Berniece Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his sons Chet Phillips of Peru and Clay Phillips of Lawton, OK; and his sisters, Bethene Stafford of Peru and Paula Nicholson of Hazel Green, WI.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel with the Funeral Service following at 2:00 p.m. The burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Peru, Iowa.
