Lawrence Olsasky, born on June 18, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, departed this life on July 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering spirit. Throughout his life, Larry demonstrated immense dedication, both to his family and to his service in the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1974. His service was marked by the honor of receiving the National Defense Service Medal, a testament to his commitment to his country.
Larry graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines, where he began to cultivate a passion for life that would stay with him through the years. Known for his joyous disposition, he embraced the arts, particularly music, with a special fondness for Fleetwood Mac. He often filled his home with their melodies, turning up the music and dancing as a way to celebrate life and instill joy in those around him.
On September 18, 2010, Larry married the love of his life, Anna Maria Rios. Their union was a beautiful testament to love and companionship, and the two shared many adventures together. Larry had a deep appreciation for nature and spent many cherished moments camping and fishing, as well as enjoying rounds of golf.
He is survived by his beloved wife Anna; his mother, Marilyn; siblings Theresa (Steve), David (Jane), and Denice (Steve) and brother-in-law, Raymond as well as his treasured grandchildren, Ethen, Izzy, Halsey, Alora, Keaton, and Landyn.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; daughter, Elizabeth; and siblings, Martin and Deborah.
A visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA 50322) on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be held prior to the visitaton at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (2926 Beaver Avenue Des Moines, IA 50310) on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003) at 11:00 a.m. Click Here to view a livestream of the funeral mass.
