Funeral services for Larry Harney, 87, of Granger, IA will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 1335 N E Beaverbrooke Blvd., Grimes, IA. Burial will follow at Beaver Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Larry passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at his home. Laurence Richard Harney was born July 7, 1933 in Woodward, IA the son of Laurence Mathew and Velma Mae (Bullington) Harney. He attended school at Granger Assumption and graduated with the class of 1949. Larry was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 and served overseas in Germany as a dozer operator with the 503rd Combat Engineers. After his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, he returned home and married Diana R. Long on September 29, 1956 at Assumption Church in Granger. Larry loved farming and worked as a propane agent for many years. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, tinkering in the shop, watching softball and Nascar, and enjoyed time with his family. Larry’s memberships included the NRA, VFW #5060, and American Legion #717 as well as a lifetime member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. Survivors include his sons, Rick (Lisa) Harney of Runnells, Tom (Kelly) Harney of Granger; son-in-law Mike Bice of Woodward; daughter-in-law Sue Harney of Granger; brothers, Jim (Kathy) Harney of Madrid, Ed (Kayla) Harney, Woodward; twelve grandchildren, Danielle (Brian) Schertz, Bettendorf, Jennifer (PJ) Runge, Chicago, Nathan (Cami) Page, Osceola, David Page, Des Moines, Jennifer Page, Bondurant, Abbie (Pat) Williams, Woodward, TJ (Heather) Schouten, Dallas Center, Heather (Kevin) Calderon, Grimes, Kayla Hillenga, Granger, Whitney (RJ) Griffin, Indianola, Mariah Harney, Runnells, and Dawson Harney, Runnells; twenty-four great grandchildren. Preceding Larry in death were his parents; wife; daughter, Lori Harney-Bice; son, Tim Harney; and sister, Kathleen Mueller. Memorials may be made to “True Impact Outdoors” for helping disabled and handicap Veterans hunt. They along with condolences to the family may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home, Perry, IA.
