Larry Wood, 75, passed away on June 6 after a short battle with metastatic cancer.

Larry was born in Des Moines to Curtis and Betty (Scrivner) Wood. He attended East High School before joining the United States Marine Corps. He spent nearly a year overseas and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. After returning to the states, he started working for the family business. He eventually took over as owner of Curtis W. Wood Roofing Inc. and took a lot of pride in providing high quality work. He married Kristi Albaugh in 1978 and later welcomed two daughters.

Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and doing projects around the house. He could often be found at one of the nearby casinos and loved long weekends in Kansas City. He was always willing to help others and was known for his friendly demeanor. Larry was a gentle giant who had a tough exterior but a heart of gold.

Larry is survived by his significant other, Leann Scalise, his daughters, Molly (Tim) Quick of Waukee and Stacey (Ryan) Metzger of Indianola, and his grandchildren, Iain Quick and Jack Metzger. He was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, Kristi Wood, his granddaughter, Mollie Quick, and his cousin who was more like a brother, Steve Kuefner.

There will be a private graveside service and burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Larry's daughters to assist with his end-of-life expenses.
