Larry Eugene Frantum, 90 of Woodward, IA passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026. Larry was born September 27th 1935 in Woodward, IA to Fred and Bernice (Myers) Frantum. He married Marie Amis on May 6, 1956 and together they built a life on their family farm. Larry loved life on the farm. He was happiest on a tractor. Even at 90 you couldn’t keep him out of the field. He planted crops this last spring and was able to maintain his 3 acre yard. In his early farming years he enjoyed selling seed corn which included traveling around the neighborhood, discussing crops with other farmers in the area.
Larry had a beautiful spirit and was always available when needed to provide service to his community, church and family. He was the “fix it guy” and could fix most things with his trusty clippers. Whenever his children needed help with anything inside or outside the house, he was there to lend a hand.
He was something of a child whisperer and children of all ages were drawn to him. When Grandpa Larry arrived, you knew fun times were right around the corner. He enjoyed spending time with family and loved playing games. In earlier years he was an avid golfer. He liked all kinds of games, especially cribbage where he was the family champion, much to the chagrin of his children and grandchildren. Larry and Marie loved to travel. They took many family vacations when their family was younger and continued their adventures until Marie’s passing in 2014.
Larry was so supportive of his family and friends. He attended every sporting and school event in which his children and grandchildren participated. His support was not limited to his family. He drove miles to watch other children for whom he cared show livestock and participate in 4-H and other events. He could always be counted on to help with Bible school or other youth activities. If you were lucky enough to have Larry in your life, you were truly blessed.
Larry is survived by, 3 children, Karen (Ed) Osenbaugh of Gilbert, Jim (Robin) Frantum of Woodward and Marla (Bunny) Frantum of Adel, 8 grandchildren, Chelsea (Tyler) Knedler, Betsy (Christian) Gebauer, Ben (Annie) Osenbaugh, Hayley (Eric) Tiffany, Megan Frantum (Tony Chapman), Cody (Tyne) Frantum, Dallas (Miranda) Sheldahl and Austin (Katie) Sheldahl, 11 great grandchildren, his sister Patricia Brobst, his brother Harold (Jeanie) Frantum and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, his parents, and great grandson Oscar Gebauer.
