Kerry Frances Bowen, age 74, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, passed away on February 9, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Kerry was born on March 30, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Mary (Bowen) Hopp. She grew up in the Des Moines area and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1969. A lifelong learner, Kerry continued her education over the years at Grand View University, and the University of Iowa.

She dedicated more than 40 years of service to Northwestern Bell (now CenturyLink), beginning her career as an operator and retiring from the field as a technician. Her work ethic, determination, and commitment were evident throughout her career.

Kerry was known for having a "huge voice" and using it for the good of her community. She was a tireless advocate for community service, serving on the Windsor Heights City Council and in numerous civic roles over the years. She was active with CWA Local 7102 and the Asian and Latino Coalition. Kerry was also part of Sister Cities and a delegation that went to Stavropol, Russia. She was known as the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Kerry also cherished her classmates and loved attending her class reunions, rarely missing one over the years. In her spare time Kerry loved photography, catching magical moments with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Bowen) Hopp; her aunt, Frances Walker; and cousins Mary Jo Dunn, John Walker, Bill Bowen, and Jim Bowen.

Kerry is survived by her cousins: Deb (Doug) Thompson, Pam (Tim) Negrete, Jeff (Julie) Dunn, Lisa Dunn, Kaylyn Walker, John Walker Jr, Kathy (Mark) Bierbaum, Steve (Paula) Walker, Glen Van Landingham, Sheryl Bowen; as well as many extended family members and friends.

In keeping with her generous spirit, Kerry donated her body to science through the University of Iowa in hopes to continue giving to others in need.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Iowa Democratic party.
