Karen S. Collins, 82, of Winterset, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Edencrest at Riverwoods in Des Moines, under the care of Hospice of the Midwest.
Karen Suzette Wilson was born on April 26, 1943, in Indianola, Iowa, the daughter of Claren and Genevra (Felch) Wilson. She graduated from Indianola High School with the Class of 1961. On May 2, 1965, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Collins in Indianola, and the couple made their home in Winterset, where Karen remained a lifelong resident.
Karen enjoyed a long career as Vice President at United Federal Savings Bank in Winterset. Dedicated to her community, she served as committee chair and later as an executive chairperson for the Boy Scouts, volunteered for the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival, and was active in numerous local organizations. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Winterset Saddle Club, reflecting her lifelong love of horses.
She is survived by her sons, Kent (Marea) Collins of Winterset and Kevin (Lori) Collins of Farmington, MN; her brother, Jim Wilson of Indianola; and three grandchildren, Gabriel Collins (fiancée, Megan Pederson), Derek (Kayla) Collins, and Abby Collins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth, and her sister, Linda Datwyler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
