Judy K. Forsman, 84, of Adel, passed away on April 5, 2024 at Spurgeon Manor from complications of dementia. A visitation will be held on from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday April 11, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home - Adel Chapel. A Funeral service will take place at 10:30 am Friday April 12, 2024 at Adel United Methodist Church. A burial will follow the funeral service at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.
Judy was born May 9,1939 Howard and Helen (Weibly) Whitnable in New Hampton, IA. Judy graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1957. She then attended AIB in Des Moines, lived at the Des Moines YMCA and played basketball for LOOK magazine. Judy married Donald Forsman on May 31,1959 and they were blessed with two children, a son Scott and daughter, Joni. Judy was a stay at home mother until the children were in school full days. She worked at the Dallas Co, extension office followed by secretarial duties at an Adel law firm.
Judy was well known in the community which led her to working at McCalley Funeral Home. She would say this was the best job ever, being able to interact with people and provide support as well as driving the hearse (which she thought was fun).
Judy was a long time member of the Adel United Methodist Church and was greatly involved with the UMW. She became “the nut lady” every fall, when the UMW had their annual fundraiser. Judy would stay very busy for these few weeks, taking nut orders, making deliveries and even mailing orders out of state.
Judy loved life, loved to laugh and was always up for a good time. She would brighten any room upon her entrance. She had the opportunity to travel, taking several cruises with her brother and SIL including European riverboat, Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska. She greatly enjoyed all of her adventures and would say, “I never would have thought I would be able to do so much traveling.”
Judy’s travels could not interrupt her time at the Iowa State Fair. She and Don had their camping spot for nearly 30 years. They would spend the entire 10 days roaming the fairgrounds and meeting up with people they had not seen since the previous year. While at the fair, Judy volunteered for the Blue Ribbon Foundation manning an exhibit, selling water or the famous Fair Squares.
Judy was a caregiver. She was always willing to hold a baby, occupy a child, or befriend the elderly. Judy also enjoyed time in her yard and gardens, feeding the birds, and collecting nativities.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and spouse.
Judy is survived by a brother Jerry (Marsha) Whitnable of Medina, Ohio, son Scott (Hollie) Forsman of Ellsworth WI, Daughter Joni (Kenny) Williams of Nevada, IA, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several extended family members.
