Jose had a very generous nature and would help anyone if he could. He enjoyed cars, dogs, video games, anime, and fishing. Jose also had a wicked spade game. Jose was most recently employed as a lumber specialist at Home Depot. However, his most important roles in life were being a loving and loyal son, brother, and friend. He was excited to be preparing for his next important role, being an excellent father to his unborn child. Jose loved children and was a special “uncle” to several. Jose would have been a great dad. A public Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, with a private family Rosary immediately following the Visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 27, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Des Moines, with a burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Jose will be deeply missed by his mother, Victoria Rocha; sister, Carolina Rivera; maternal grandfather, Gennaro Nucaro; father, Jose Rivera; his half-sisters, Letty and Nailah Rivera; paternal grandparents, Juan Martinez and Felicita Marrero; girlfriend and mother of his unborn child, Simone Harpin; primo hermano, JaJuan Dawson Martinez; honorary brothers, Omar Ahmed, Jordan Hartzer,Kobe Lashley, and Macky Brooks; his aunts, Alejandra, Rosa and Yolanda; his uncles, Steven, Frank, Cosimo, Jorge, Reinaldo “Tony”, Angel and Juan “Johnny”; his 23 first cousins; and his dog, Kyzer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jose’s family to be placed into a fund for his baby on the way.
