John Leroy Pitsenbarger, 77, of Adel, passed away at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Linn Cemetery in Redfield, Iowa. John was born on July 14, 1948, the son of Harold and Darlene (Pearson) Pitsenbarger. He graduated from Dexfield High School with the Class of 1966. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army National Guard.
He was united in marriage to Cheryl Clayton, and together they were blessed with three children: Stacey, Justin, and Amanda. The couple later divorced in 1992.
John worked as a truck driver and farmer throughout his life, retiring in 2019. On September 27, 2025, he married Kelly Duncan at their farm in Adel.
He enjoyed having coffee with the guys, may have had a small “hoarding” habit, and most of all, loved his family more than anything. He was incredibly proud of them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Pitsenbarger of Adel; children: Stacey Pitsenbarger (Deana) of Rio Vista, California; Justin Pitsenbarger (Tonia) of Colo, Iowa; and Amanda Doherty (Felix) of Elk Horn, Iowa; grandchildren: Rebecca (Dusty), Anthony, Riley, RaeLynn, Justice (Jarrett), Jasmine (Keegan), Hunter (Kourtney), and Kelcie (Wesley); great-grandchildren: Jersey, Desi, Evelyn, Bryce, Brock, and Briar; sister, Kay Vanags of Des Moines; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Darlene Pitsenbarger; parents-in-law, Art and Sandy Duncan; granddaughter, Tyra; and brother-in-law, Louie Clayton.
