Jeanne was born on December 13, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Gene and Maureen (Yeakel) Townsend. She grew up in West Des Moines, where she spent her entire life. She was a graduate of Valley High School and later earned her associate’s degree from Simpson College, both located in West Des Moines.
Jeanne married her high school sweetheart, Scott Dawson, whom she met at Holiday Pool, and together they welcomed their son, Zachary, in 1979. Scott passed away in 2016. Jeanne later found love again and married Gerry Scott in 2023; he passed away in 2025.
She had a passion for teaching and spent many years as a trainer at Mediacom, where she worked closely with customer service representatives. Jeanne formed lasting relationships with her coworkers and remained in contact with many of them throughout the years.
Jeanne’s faith was an important part of her life. In earlier years, she enjoyed singing in church and proudly sang the National Anthem at Iowa Cubs games. She also found joy in watching classic television shows. Above all, Jeanne treasured her family and the memories they shared.
She is survived by her son, Zach Dawson, and granddaughter, Sophia Dawson, both of West Des Moines; her sisters, Jill (Don) Tompkins of Iowa City and Jan (James) Haley of Dallas, Texas; and Gerry’s children: Charles (Deb) Scott, Todd (Shari) Scott, Samuel (Amanda) Scott, and Mary “Sandi” Diaz, and several grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Maureen Townsend; her first husband, Scott Dawson; and her second husband, Gerry Scott.
