Janet was born on July 4, 1941, in Wiota, Iowa, to Harry and Lenora Jacobsen. In 1944, the family moved to rural Cumberland, where they made their home. Janet was baptized on October 14, 1951, confirmed on May 29, 1955, and graduated from high school on May 22, 1959.
On June 6, 1959, Janet was united in marriage. Together they were blessed with four children: Alice, Linda, Michael, and Martin, whom they raised in Menlo, Iowa.
Janet worked for Preferred Risk for many years before retiring. Not one to stay idle, she later joined the staff at the Adel Public Library, where she worked for more than ten years. In 1990, she made her home in Adel and became a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Janet found her greatest joy in her family. She loved attending the sporting events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on with pride. She also had a remarkable gift for quilting, creating more than 500 quilts throughout her lifetime. Her generosity knew no bounds—she donated quilts to hospitals, people overseas, veterans through Quilts of Valor, and anyone who could use the warmth and comfort they provided. Her flower gardens were another source of joy, filling her yard with beautiful blooms that she loved to share with family, friends, neighbors, and visitors.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; and one brother.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Alice Stickley of Boone, Iowa, Linda (Chris) Thompson of Fallon, Nevada, Michael (Tammy) of De Soto, Iowa, and Martin (Robin) of Adel, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
