Janet (Hodges) Craig

Janet (Hodges) Craig, 74, of Panora, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Via of Carlisle.

Janet was born April 26, 1951, to Cecil and Marjorie (Severance) Hodges. She grew up in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in 1969. Following her education, Janet worked for the State of Iowa as a printer and typesetter. Later in life, she followed her passion for nature and started her own gardening business, sharing her love of plants and flowers with others.

Throughout her life, Janet lived in several Iowa communities including Norwalk, Des Moines, Palo, and Panora, where she made her home for the longest period of time. She was an active member of the Master Gardener Association of Iowa, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, and the Hosta Club. Janet had a curious spirit and a love for learning, even taking flying lessons at one time. She also proudly served for a short time in the Naval Reserves.

She is survived by her sons, Justin Craig (Bonnie) and Jeffrey Craig (Misti); her brothers, Mark Hodges and Matt Hodges; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – Winterset Chapel, with visitation beginning two hours prior (11am-1pm). Burial will follow at Winterset Cemetery. There will be a reception held at the Winterset Livery (116 S. 1st St., Winterset) following the burial at the cemetery.
