Jackson McPherson Kimball (2003-2025)
Jackson McPherson Kimball, 22, of Winterset, Iowa, died on November 8, 2025, in Brunswick County, North Carolina. Jackson was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dr. Amy Katherine Nordhausen Kimball and Dr. Joseph McPherson Kimball on June 19, 2003. Jackson was raised in Winterset, Iowa, and graduated from Winterset High School on May 23, 2021. He attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, as a Thorson Honors Student and graduated with his degree in Mechanical Engineering on May 9, 2025. During his college career, Jackson excelled in his internships with Altec Corporation in Osceola, Iowa, and STRUCTURAL Group in Denver, Colorado, and engineered and built a 12-car (overland race car) with his team of friends and classmates for his Senior Design Project. At the time of his death, Jackson was living in Southport, North Carolina, where he was working as a Project Engineer for Structural Group on a project with Duke Energy at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.
Jackson was a devoted son, family member, and friend. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mary Ellen Foss Kimball and Dr. James David Kimball. He is survived by his fiancée, Fayth Logan Hiatt of Winterset, Iowa; parents Dr. Amy Nordhausen Kimball and Dr. Joseph McPherson Kimball and sister Madeline Rae Kimball of Winterset, Iowa; maternal grandparents Barbara Rae Isaacson Nordhausen and Lloyd James Nordhausen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; uncles Jeffrey Deur (Eva) Kimball of Budapest, Hungary and Dr. Craig Thomas (Jennifer) Nordhausen of Montrose, Colorado; immediate cousins David Nicholas (Danielle) Kimball of Temple, Texas, Dr. Anna Krisztina Kimball of Budapest, Hungary, Tyler Scott (Kristin) Nordhausen of Delta, Colorado, Alex Michael (Joy) Nordhausen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Macie Joy Nordhausen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Chloe Grace Nordhausen of Montrose, Colorado as well as many beloved extended family members and numerous incredible friends.
Jackson was a gifted artist, musician, and multi-sport athlete. He excelled in soccer, cross-country, track, and swimming throughout school and competed in championship triathlons. Jackson combined his artistic talents, woodworking, and welding skills to create masterpieces that grace the homes, offices, and gardens of many family and friends. Jackson actively served in 4-H leadership and successfully entered many projects at the County and State level, resulting in multiple blue ribbons and accolades. He shared his musical gifts on piano and trumpet with his family, school, church, and community. Jackson loved spending time exploring anywhere in nature, skiing, fishing, shooting sports, 4-wheeling in his Jeep, riding dirt bikes, and building or fixing anything he could get his hands on. He was a brilliant engineer who could not only create a masterful design for a project, but also possessed the skills and relished the opportunity to build with his own hands.
Jackson Kimball’s life philosophy was “Walk With Purpose.” He lived this in his kind, thoughtful approach to opportunities as well as interactions with others. Jackson was perpetually curious and adventurous and never shied away from a new challenge or the possibility to learn a new skill. He also never shied away from opportunities to help others. Jackson was a fierce friend and was passionate about truly knowing the people he encountered in his life. He excelled in his engineering career with STRUCTURAL Group and was overjoyed to be planning an incredible future with his adored fiancée, Fayth Hiatt. Jackson has frequently been described as a “shining star” who made all who were fortunate to know him proud and comforted by his presence.
The visitation will be Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Winterset. The Celebration of Life will be Monday, November 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Winterset.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests contributions be made to a memorial fund at Union State Bank for a future designation.
