Harvey Eivins lived a life guided by his love of the country and being around friends and family.
Harvey was born on April 10, 1946 in his grandmother’s home in Winterset, Iowa to parents Ruth (Young) and Floyd Eivins. He grew up on the family farm near Macksburg and attended elementary school in Macksburg. After graduating from Orient-Macksburg High School in 1964, he enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1966 to 1969 on the USS Oriskany.
On October 28, 1972 he was united in marriage to Marianne Malone. They met in Creston while he was employed by the Department of Transportation and she was a teacher at the high school. A few years later they moved to Winterset where they raised their family.
For a number of years he was employed by Farm Service. Later he worked at the Schildberg quarry and then Martin Marietta quarry for many years. Upon retirement he started his own salvage business. Later he helped others in a variety of ways on their land using his own machinery. He often volunteered to help his friends and neighbors clean up after storm damage, always showing a strong work ethic and humble heart. He was happiest working outdoors. In recent years he enjoyed frequent visits to Pammel Park to watch the eagles and walk on the trails.
Harvey was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He could often be found with a smile helping out at a Fish Fry or greeting parishioners as an usher. Harvey did not know a stranger. He loved to joke around and “give you some static”. He had a special way with kids and he enjoyed helping with the Wednesday night youth group dinners at church. He spoke to several classes of Winterset students over the years about his experiences as a Vietnam Veteran.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Velma and his brother Everett. Harvey leaves behind his wife, Marianne; and his legacy will live on through his children, Danielle (Chucho) and Zach (Erin); and grandchildren, Sebastian, Diego, Natalie and Hayden. He is also survived by his brothers Marvin (Lillian) and Arnold (Kay), sister-in-law Carol and his beloved nieces and nephews.
The Visitation will be Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 3-5 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winterset, with a Vigil Service following at 5 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. The burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.
