Harold "Andy" Andrew Lathrop, a lifelong native of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Nebraska on September 11, 1974, to Harold Lathrop and Sandra (Mason) Knight, he was 51 years old. Named after his father, he was known affectionately by all who loved him as "Andy."
Andy was a really smart man who possessed a quick wit and a great sense of humor that could brighten any room. In his younger days in Des Moines, he was incredibly gifted working with his hands. He took great pride in his hard work, spending many years roofing and mastering his trade. As a young boy, he shared a deep and cherished bond with his grandmother, spending countless hours by her side.
Though Andy's path came with deep personal challenges and hardships, his heart belonged to his family. He deeply loved his children, and the final year of his life brought him immense joy and purpose. He absolutely adored his grandchildren, Levi and Bella, with every ounce of his heart, dedicating his final year to creating sweet, lasting bonds with them.
Andy was reunited in death with his beloved wife, Robin. He was also preceded in death by his father, Harold; and his brothers, Isaac Lathrop and Todd Lathrop.
He is survived by his children, Jordan, Nicole, and Bradley; his stepdaughter, Jorie; and his cherished grandchildren, Levi and Bella. He is also survived by his loving siblings: his twin sister, Melissa Allen; brothers, Jason Lathrop, Zachary Lathrop, and Jacob Lathrop; sisters, Tina Maddox-Beerbower, Jessica Lathrop, and Gabrielle Lathrop; alongside extended family members who choose to focus on his intelligence, the laughs they shared, the fierce love he had for his family, and the peace he has finally found.
