Glen Charles Altfillisch, age 87, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Glen was born on July 10, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Mark and Rita (Schneider) Altfillisch. He grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1957. Glen served in the United States Army and graduated in 1973 from The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He went on to build a distinguished career as a bank examiner and as president of Peoples Savings Bank in Elma, Iowa, before retiring as a successful sales representative with US Checkbook.

On July 6, 1963, Glen married the love of his life, Dorothy Marie Kober. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and golf.

Glen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his funny stories, generosity, and deep love of his family.

He especially enjoyed golf, traveling, and watching sports (especially the Iowa State Cyclones). Some of his favorite memories were made while traveling with family, attending his granddaughters' softball games, and golfing with his wife and friends.

After initially retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas, Glen and Dorothy moved to Surprise, Arizona, in 2007, where they spent nearly 19 years before returning to Iowa to be closer to their daughter.

Glen's Catholic faith was an important part of his life where he served as a Knight of Columbus and was involved in various volunteer activities.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; children, Mark (Michelle) Altfillisch and Julie (Derek) Jones; granddaughters, Lindsay (Noah) Schultz and Audrey Altfillisch; and great-granddaughter, Adaline Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gary Altfillisch and Jean Anderson.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Kavanagh House for the compassionate care and support provided to Glen and his family.
