Gary York

Gary Dene York, 72, of Des Moines and previously of Austin, TX, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Kavanagh Hospice House after a three-year battle with a rare cancer. He was born March 14, 1946 to Earnest and Frances (Hubbs) York in Green Forest, Arkansas. Gary is survived by his husband of 22 years, Bob Gowdey; daughter, Kara Gardner (Seth Grywatch); son, Jason (Courtney) York and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene York. Per Gary’s wishes, he will be cremated and a private family burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Please, no flowers. Memorial contributions in Gary’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
