Gary Bracewell

Gary Lee Bracewell, 78, of Urbandale, IA died March 15, 2017. Gary was born September 23, 1938 in Allerton, IA, to Garland and Eunice Bracewell. He served 8 years in the Air Force and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration where he was an air traffic controller. He later worked as an insurance adjuster in Des Moines and Ft. Myers, FL, before retiring a second time to Las Vegas, NV. Gary is survived by his wife, Marlis, and two children from his first marriage: Julie Bracewell (Pat) of Dittmer, MO, and Michael (Deb) Bracewell of Runnells, IA. He married again in 1979 to Marlis Dietl who had two daughters by a previous marriage: Romi Kowalk (Jim) of Kellogg, MN and Merri Costello (Wayne) of Clive, IA. There are 8 grandchildren from this combined union: Ryan Shelledy, Nicole Shelledy, Ashley Kowalk, Tristan Bracewell, Rosie Bracewell, Anthony Costello, Evan Bracewell and Mason Costello. He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Doug) Johns of Apache Junction, AZ; brother, Randy (Marie) Bracewell of Seattle, WA; and mother-in-law, Lisbeth Kuczynski (Oma) of Urbandale, IA. His brother, Michael Ted Bracewell, preceded him in death. Gary wished to be cremated and his ashes placed in the columbarium wall at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM, March 18, 2017 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, Urbandale, IA with visitation from 10:30-11:30 AM. Memorial contributions may be given to Wounded Warrior Project.
