Frederick Leon Harris (Jackson), affectionately known as Fast Freddie, was born on February 8, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Olive G. Harris and Frederick Jackson. Freddie grew up on the Southeast side of the city, also known as the Southside Bottoms, and was educated in the DesMoines Public School System, graduating from East High School.

After graduation, Freddie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines. His time in the service reflected what those who knew him best already saw: his intelligence, his resourcefulness, and his determination to do things his own way.

Freddie was an entrepreneur through and through. A true jack of all trades. There wasn't much he couldn't do. Whether it was fixing something that seemed beyond repair or coming up with a quick solution out of thin air, Freddie could figure it out. His family often compared him to MacGyver because he had a knack for making things work with whatever he had on hand. His intelligence, creativity, and determination were unmatched, and he carried those gifts into everything he did.

Freddie was a free spirit who never let the world define him. He lived life with a sense of adventure, finding peace in nature and the freedom it gave him. His journey wasn't always conventional, but it was his and that's what made him so special to those who truly knew and loved him.

He loved fishing, being outdoors, all sports, and listening to country music. Freddie also had a sharp sense of style and a love for clothes and hats. He always knew how to make an impression wherever he went. Freddie loved his family deeply, and we loved him just the same. His life was full of laughter, love, and lessons about resilience and authenticity. His family and friends will forever cherish the wild, beautiful memories and adventures shared with him, each one a reflection of his bold, loving, and unapologetically free spirit.

Freddie was called home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olive G. Harris and Frederick L. Jackson;brothers, John Jr.(Buddy) and Eddie Harris and Stephen Jackson; and a granddaughter, Shani Jackson.

He is survived by his daughters, Cameo and Camille Harris; son, Fred Harris; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings: Carla, David (Jaime), Rodney (Terri), Marvin (Bonita), Toni, Brian, Tracy (Cara), Robin, Mary (Dwayne),and Tammy, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who loved him dearly.

Freddie will be remembered for his quick wit, his big heart, and the way he lived life fully, on his own terms. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
