Ellen Kathryn Capaul

Ellen Kathryn Capaul (75) passed away on November 1, 2025. Visitation will be held at Saint Augustin's Catholic Church (545 42nd Street, Des Moines IA) at 10:30 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025. Interment will be held on November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornell Cemetery, in Cornell WI.

Ellen Kathryn Capaul, 75, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at her assisted living apartment.

Born November 19, 1949, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Raymond and Kathryn (Flood) Capaul, Ellen grew up in Cornell, Wisconsin, with her older sister, Elaine, and younger brother, Ray.

After attending vocational school in Eau Claire, where she earned numerous awards for typing speed, Ellen moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. She dedicated nearly 44 years to the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a “clerk typist two,” retiring in 2012. She enjoyed 13 fulfilling years of retirement in Maplewood before relocating to Des Moines in May 2025 to be nearer to family.

Though her physical strength waned in her final months, Ellen’s sharp wit and warm spirit endured. She was a cherished sister, cousin, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed.
