Edie Marie Marks

Edie Marks was born on July 16, 1954, in Iowa to Frances Purdy and Margaret Farr. She was one of five siblings. At a young age, she was adopted by Joseph Rolland and Doris Marks, and grew up on a farm with her family.

Edie graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1972. She later married Rodger Willcox, and together they had three children: Michael J. Willcox (born October 7, 1973), Heather M. Willcox (born July 20, 1978), and Bobbi J. Willcox (Spooner) (born February 6, 1984). Although Edie and Rodger eventually divorced, she proudly reclaimed her maiden name and remained devoted to her family.

She was blessed with seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy.

Throughout her life, Edie was passionate about helping others. She spent many years working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental illness. She was known for her compassion, dedication, and strong work ethic. Even as she entered her later 60s, she continued working until health issues led her to retire.

Since her passing, Edie's children have received an outpouring of love and touching stories from those whose lives she impacted. All three of her children have spoken about what a wonderful mother she was. Her youngest daughter, Bobbi, described her as “the strongest person she had ever met in the world.”

On Aug 26, 2025, Edie passed away at Pine Acres Nursing Home in West Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 71.

Edie will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and enduring love.

A Celebration of life will be at The Knotty Pine in Winterset, Iowa (1370 US-169, Winterset, IA 50273) on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided.
