Can you imagine at the end of your life that it would be hard to find anyone to say a negative thing about you.......well That would be true of Dorothy…..
Dorothy Jean Critz was the second of six children born to Mark and Gretchen Critz. Dorothy attended Sacred Heart grade school and St. Josephs Academy. Dorothy married Anthony Joseph Montinguise in January 1952. In April 1953, their first child was born, followed 13 months later by their second child. In the next 3 years two more children followed completing their family. Anthony passed away in 1997 at the age of 66, they were married 46 years.
Dorothy and Anthony moved to the corner of Merle Hay and Franklin, bought a house and started the neighborhood grocery store, Franklin Food Shop where they worked side by side until they retired. After Anthony’s passing Dorothy moved to Ankeny where she lived until her death. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and then All Saints Catholic Church.
Dorothy loved to give, she spent hours buying groceries for her kids and grandkids. She set up a “grocery store”in her home and kept it stocked then her family could come over and “shop” . She did this for many years until she was no longer able. She was lovingly called Grandma Dot and her family knew she loved them. She was the matriarch and the example she set will be hard to live up to.
Dorothy made her home open to everyone, her cooking was outstanding and her generosity was well known. She never complained about the pain she was in, especially in the last months. Her faith let her lean on God’s promises for a heavenly reward
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Sharon Foddrill; daughter, Christine Westover (Dennis); grandchildren, Brian Foddrill (Kris), John Foddrill (Angela), Shelly McElligott (David), Amy DeBonis, Denise Little (Brett), Andrea Blunck (Joe), James Westover (Kasi), Joseph Westover (Alexa), Lissette Westover, Matthew Westover, Eric Westover, PJ Westover, Jennifer Crandall (Jim), Christopher Montinguise and Tony Montinguise, 26 Great Grandchildren and two great great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; daughter, Debra Krause; son, Michael Montinguise; daughter-in-law, Diane Montinguise and granddaughter, Danielle Montinguise
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church in honor of Dorothy.
