Donna Marie (Hill) Monson, 65, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away in her home on March 13th, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, strength, and kindness touched everyone she met.
Donna was born on August 21st, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand View University in 1984. In 1989, she married her husband, Tim Monson, and began their family in 1992 with the birth of their son, Gregory, and in 1994 with the birth of their daughter, Maren.
Donna built a life centered around caring for others. She was a passionate and dedicated registered nurse at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Des Moines. She spent her career helping those who served their country, offering not just medical care but deep compassion for her patients.
Beyond her work, Donna’s heart was with her family and friends. She treasured time with loved ones and maintained lifelong friendships, always making the people around her feel special and supported. She had an eye for beauty and a love of color, filling her home and the lives of those around her with vibrancy and joy. Whether planning her next trip to the beach, reminiscing with old friends, scheduling her next golf tee time, or simply being present for her family, Donna lived with passion and purpose.
She was a fighter, beating cancer once before with incredible resilience. Even in difficult times, her strength and love never wavered.
Donna is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Monson; her children, Gregory Monson (Haley), and Maren Oakes (Ryan); her two cherished granddaughters; and her siblings, Susan Smith, Martin Hill, and Linda Sutherland. She is reunited in passing with her parents, Donald and Bette Hill, her brother, Wrex Hill, and her stepmother, Dorothy Hill.
A celebration of life will be held this spring in Des Moines, Iowa, with details to be shared at a later date. In honor of Donna’s legacy, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).
Donna’s love, warmth, and unwavering kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
