Donald John Kellen was born in Le Mars, Iowa, on Feb. 13, 1935, and died in Sun City on March 23, 2021. A graveside service will be held in the Booneville Cemetery on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Don grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School. He served in the military in Korea. Don worked at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, for many years in the radiology department. He loved camping, especially at the Iowa State fair for many years, loved antiquing and garage sales, Cubs, and Hawkeyes. He was an avid reader of the newspaper, liked political shows, and old westerns. Don is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Merryman Kellen; son, Ted; son Tim (Nicole) and grandson, Branson; stepchildren, Brian Murphy family, Jayme Murphy (Warren) Brott family, and Jerri Murphy (James) Axioits family; brother, Sonny (Julie) Kellen; and sister, Judi (Bob) Brouillette. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma, Betty, and Linda; and brother, Thomas.
