Donald Dean Hiddleson, 90, of Ankeny, formerly of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Donald was born on June 26, 1935, in Rippey, Iowa to Ora and Bessie (Doidge) Hiddleson. He graduated from Rippey High School with the Class of 1953. In 1955, he married his best friend and sweetheart, Norma Hane. Having known each other since high school, their friendship blossomed into a loving marriage for 68 years..
Donald dedicated most of his life to farming. Whether tending crops, caring for his dairy operation, or raising cattle, he took great pride in his work and the life he built for his family. The Hiddleson family farm was recognized as a Century Farm, a testament to generations of dedication to Iowa agriculture. Donald and Norma took exceptional pride in maintaining the farm, and in 2012, it was featured in Our Iowa magazine as the "Most Beautiful Farm." A hardworking and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Donald believed that family always came first.
He was an avid fan of college sports and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren at their sporting events, proudly serving as their biggest supporter. Donald also enjoyed gardening alongside Norma, and together they spent many happy winters as snowbirds in Arizona, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Those left to cherish Donald's memory include his children, Colleen (David) Rich, Steve Hiddleson, Pam (Craig) Doocy, and Kim (Jim) DeLong; his grandchildren, John (Ana) Rich, Jenn Rich, Sarah Rich, Lauren Doocy, and Allison (Grant) Leonard; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Keith Hiddleson; his sisters, Marilyn Pentico and Lois Consier; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
A visitation for Donald will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – Perry Chapel, 1721 Park Street, Perry. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery.
