David Andrew Matlock, 49, of Norwalk, Iowa, died November 1, 2025. A service with military honors will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery on November 17, 2025, at 9:30 am.

David was born September 13, 1976, in Lapeer, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Amanda, and their children Emmett and Grant of Norwalk, Iowa; son Nathan (Siobhan) Borowski of Port Huron, Michigan; daughter Erin Matlock of Maize, Kansas; mother Geraldine Gibson of Port Huron, Michigan; brothers James Pruitt (Emilee Candelaria) of Orlando, Florida, and Jonathan Pruitt of Louisiana; nephew Cal Candelaria; uncle Gerald Whiting and aunts Gayle Eyre and Gwen (Fred) Schoneman. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Matlock, stepfather William Gibson, and grandmother Evelyn Whiting.

David was a man of many hats, but the one he wore best was that of a natural-born problem-solver and innovator. He saw the world through a unique lens, shaped by a lifetime of rich experiences. He had an extraordinary ability to understand how things worked – and how to make them work better. David was always ready to offer advice, lend a hand, or share a clever solution – whether you asked for it or not – because he genuinely cared about helping others succeed. His advice came from the heart, always aimed at lifting up the people around him and helping them become the best versions of themselves. In David’s eyes, there was nothing that couldn’t be accomplished. He believed deeply that with perseverance and purpose, anyone could build and shape their world into something amazing.

David’s pride and joy were his children. Nothing made him happier than being their dad — whether he was cheering them on, giving advice, or just making them laugh. He loved sharing little moments with them, the kind that turn into lifelong memories. His kids were his heart, and everything he did, he did for them.

Another great source of pride for David was his military career. He served his country with honor, beginning on active duty in the United States Navy aboard the USS Inchon. After his time in the Navy, he continued his service as a Command Post Controller in the Air National Guard at the 136th Airlift Wing in Fort Worth, Texas, and the 132nd Wing in Des Moines, Iowa. He received numerous honors and awards during his 20-year career before retiring from service in December 2024.

Memorials may be directed to the Puppy Jake Foundation; a charity that assists veterans struggling with PTSD or addiction; or to the donor’s choice.

Anyone wishing to attend the graveside service at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery is welcome. Please plan to arrive by 9:15 a.m. at the Administration Building. Attendees will line up there and be escorted in their vehicles down to the shelter for the graveside service, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
