Dale William Danhauer, 57, of Perry, Iowa, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026, at First Christian Church in Perry, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial of Dale’s cremated remains will take place at a later time.
Dale William Danhauer was born on April 24, 1969, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Dorland and Flora (Graham) Danhauer. He grew up in the Aurora, Nebraska, area before moving to Des Moines, Iowa, during his senior year of high school. Dale graduated from Roosevelt High School in December 1987.
Dale began his working career as a carpenter before joining Sun Chemical, where he worked as a color ink matcher and producer at the Meredith printing plant. His hardworking nature and entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to become a business owner, operating Midwest Property Services, a property preservation and lawn/snow care business. Most recently, Dale owned and operated Dale’s Rehab Store, where he sold new surplus building materials. Throughout his life, Dale took pride in his work and was never afraid to tackle a new project or opportunity.
On August 29, 2004, Dale married Jan Gilmore. Together, they built a life filled with family, shared memories, and the everyday moments that meant the most. Dale was a member of First Christian Church in Perry, Iowa.
Dale was happiest when he was outdoors. He loved fishing, bow hunting deer, and spending time on his pontoon boat at Lake Anita. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. Whether he was enjoying a quiet day on the water, spending time outdoors, or working on something around the house, Dale appreciated life’s simple pleasures.
An avid sports fan, Dale’s loyalty to the Nebraska Cornhuskers ran deep. He was a die-hard Nebraska football fan who rarely missed a game, whether watching television or listening on the radio. His love for sports began at a young age, when he played baseball and football while growing up in Aurora, Nebraska. Dale also enjoyed gardening and took pride in growing tomatoes, which he believed were some of the very best around.
Dale’s love for the outdoors began early in life. His mother recalled that, even as a little boy, Dale would take off on his bicycle in the mornings and return home at dusk after spending the day fishing or hunting with his Uncle Bill. That adventurous spirit and appreciation for the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life.
Dale will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of family, his passion for Nebraska football, and the many interests that made him who he was.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jan Gilmore Danhauer; his children, Taylor (Matt) Robertson and Lee (Jill) White; his grandchildren, Gage, Hayden, Bridget, and Madi; his brothers, Dennis (Diana) Danhauer and Daniel (Renee) Danhauer; his sister, Kim (Rick) Bailey; his sisters-in-law, Julie Cornelius and Joan (Dan) McKinney; his beloved furry companions, Oreo (cat), Honey (Lab), and Moe (horse); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorland and Flora Danhauer, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Through the Iowa Donor Network, Dale was able to give the gift of donation following his passing. This final gift of generosity serves as a lasting part of his legacy, bringing hope and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
In honor of Dale, two of his favorites, Diet Dr Pepper and donuts, will be served following the ceremony in the church basement. Family and friends are encouraged to dress casually, just as Dale would have preferred.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a designation to be made at a later date in Dale’s memory.
