Cynthia “Cindy” Louise Ransom, age 78, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in Des Moines. Born on April 2, 1947, in Ohio to James “Frank” and Ida “Jane” (Piper) Crain, Cindy lived a life grounded in service to others, love for her family, and dedication to education.
Cindy grew up in Ohio and, after completing high school, went on to attend Alice Lloyd College in Kentucky. She later earned her Teaching Certificate from Morehead State University. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, Roy Ransom. The two were married in 1969 and began their life together in Parkersburg, West Virginia, where Cindy began her teaching career.
In 1970, Cindy and Roy welcomed their son Matt, and a year later, the family relocated to Germany when Roy was drafted into the U.S. Army. During their two years abroad, Cindy worked as a substitute teacher and celebrated the birth of their daughter, Becky, in 1972.
Upon returning to the United States, the Ransoms settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where Cindy continued her work as an educator. In 1985, the family moved to Adel, Iowa, where Cindy joined the Earlham Community School District and dedicated the remainder of her career to teaching, touching countless young lives until her retirement.
In recent years, Cindy and Roy made their home in Waukee, Iowa. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Cindy cherished time with her growing family. She had a passion for cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting. She was especially proud to attend and support her grandchildren at their many activities and events.
Cindy’s life was one of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and commitment to others.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Roy; her children, Matt (Christi) Ransom and Becky (Joe) Walters; grandchildren, Cole (Miranda), Luke, Katy, Michael, Jacob and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Mila, Rhyatt and Remy; brother, Dan; sister, Ruth; and many dear friends, colleagues, and former students who will remember her fondly.
