Craig Wesley Howard, 63, of Des Moines, passed away on June 21, 2026.
Craig was born on October 22, 1962, in Ottumwa, to Raymond and Rena Howard. He was baptized in the Methodist church where his parents were married.
Craig graduated from Davis County High School with the Class of 1981. He was active in FFA, which began his passion for farming.
Following graduation, he farmed alongside his father before beginning a career with Cargill and later Vermeer. Craig was mechanically gifted and could often be found working on vehicles or enjoying tractor pulling.
Craig had two children, Amber and Phil. He took great pride in raising his children in Davis County. He loved spending time with them, taking them fishing and vacationing in Missouri.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending races whenever he had the opportunity. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his strong work ethic, and his generous spirit, always willing to lend his time and help others.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amber (Zac) Sprouse of Bloomfield; his son, Phil (Valerie Hileman) Howard of Waterloo; his beloved grandchildren, Bryson, Grady, Taya, and Ava Sprouse, Emma and Levi Howard; his sister, Marilyn (Wilbur) Smith of Fort Myers, Fla; and his brothers, Jimmy (Debora) Howard of Grimes, and Steven (DeAnn) Howard of West Des Moines.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rena Howard; and his former wife, Carla Howard.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 11 a.m., at the Ottumwa Cemetery, 1302 N Court St., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
