Connie Alene Carter (Nichols), 72, of DeSoto, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Connie was born on June 12, 1953, the daughter of Don and Lois (Monaghan) Nichols.

She was a caring and devoted person who found her greatest purpose in looking after those she loved. Caring for her family and loved ones meant everything to her. She was a bright light in a room. If you knew her, you know.

Connie was an avid reader and enjoyed watching television and just appreciating the simple things in life. She worked for over 20 years as an office manager for a local used auto parts business.

She enjoyed the companionship of her animals over the years. The fondest memories she and the family shared over the years were the card games that lasted many long hours, usually ten-point pitch and so many years spent camping and swimming at the lake. Everyone in the family had the experience of enjoying these great times with her, and for that, we couldn’t ask for anything more. Her most cherished times were as an entire family together spending it with her kids and grandchildren(great).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gregory M. Carter; her son, Travis D. Carter; and her sister, Kathy Greif.

Connie is survived by her daughter, Sarah K. Black (Chad) of Patterson; her grandchildren, Skyler M. Carter (son of Travis Carter), Dylan Black (Delana) of New Virginia, Dustin Black (Hailey) of St. Charles, Dalton Black of Patterson, and Delainey Black; four great-grandchildren, Waylon, Wayne, and Paisley Black, with a baby girl expected in April to Dylan and Delana. She is also survived by her nephews, Kevin Greif and Brian Greif of DeSoto.

Connie will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to family, and the love she gave to those closest to her. She will be deeply missed.
