With faith in the promise of eternal life, we share the passing of Charmaine Elizabeth Weaver who entered into the loving presence of our Lord on June 7, 2026.
Charmaine was born on September 1, 1952 in Rochester, Minnesota. Char's career path led her as a devoted nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She cared for her patients with skill, compassion, and dignity throughout her career. Her vocation as a nurse reflected her deep commitment to living out her Christian values through service to those who were sick or in need.
In addition to her work in healthcare, Charmaine faithfully served in ministry, sharing God's love by helping within her parish church and outreach. In her twenties, Char joined the Little Sisters of the Poor, taking the name Sister John of the Cross. Due to health issues she was unable to stay active with the order, but that religious fervor never left her. She later joined the Lay Carmelites whose spirituality was rooted in contemplative prayer, community, and service. Char had a profound devotion to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her unwavering faith guided every aspect of her life.
After Char moved to Des Moines she served as the Administrative Assistant with Respond Ministry. She managed the many details that brought Marian concerts to Catholic Churches throughout the country.
Beyond her dedication to faith and service, Char had a special love for animals. She found great joy in the companionship of her beloved cats Starr and Nala, along with her bird Kirby. They were her family and source of much happiness.
Those who knew Char will remember her prayerful heart, quiet strength, steadfast independence, and unwavering trust in God. She touched many lives through her wisdom and faithful witness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on July 8, 2026 at 10:00. A visitation will begin at 9:00 with a Rosary at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church or the Animal Rescue League.
