Charles “Chuck” Nigut passed away peacefully after a long battle with health challenges. Born on August 9, 1941, in Melrose, Iowa, he grew up on the family century farm.
A proud graduate of Drake University, Chuck earned both his pharmacy and law degrees, a unique accomplishment that reflected his lifelong love of learning. For nearly 50 years, he served as a pharmacist, most notably as the owner of his own pharmacy in Corydon and also with major retail stores. His work went beyond filling prescriptions; he was always there to listen, advise, and help patients in whatever way he could.
In the back of his pharmacy, Chuck opened a small law office, where his counsel continued to guide those who sought his legal advice. He also used those legal skills to start a business brokerage in Seattle, WA. In Seattle, Chuck met his beloved wife Mary, and they later moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.
Chuck had many passions beyond work. He was a licensed pilot who loved the view from above, a traveler who never tired of seeing new places, an auto racing enthusiast who enjoyed his own moments behind the wheel, and a farmer who loved working with Mary to always improve their beautiful farm.
He also had a deep appreciation for family history. His book on the Nigut family traced traced generations of his family and ensured that their stories would not be forgotten. Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying a quiet patriotism throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by Mary, whom he loved dearly; and his parents, Alex and Edna. He is survived by his sister, Sandy Lucas (Jim); his sons, Rush (Beth) and Roman (Jennifer); nephew, Jon (Brenna) Lucas and his four grandchildren, Will (Grace), Alec (Emma), Maddy, and Brooks, as well as a great-niece, Eleanor, who all brought him great joy and pride. He is also remembered by his former wife Nancy, with whom Chuck had two sons.
A visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Life Foundation.
