Charles "Chuck" W. Lewis

Charles Williams Lewis passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, while in hospice care at EveryStep Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa. “Chuck” was 86 years old.

Chuck was born on July 3, 1940, in Osceola, Iowa, to Kenneth and Helen Lewis. He attended Osceola High School, where he played baseball and loved driving his 1955 Ford Fairlane. After graduation, Chuck attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Education.

He married the love of his life, Linda Kay Burger, of Waukee, Iowa, on June 1, 1968. Together, Chuck and Linda raised two children: Mary Elizabeth “Lisa” and Chad Collin.

Chuck began his career as a history teacher and coach for girls’ basketball, softball, and track and field. He later transitioned into sales and eventually became the business owner of Okoboji Pallet and Packaging in Redfield, Iowa.

Chuck lived a full and vibrant life. An avid sports fan, he cheered for local Iowa teams including the Drake Bulldogs, the Iowa State Cyclones, and especially the Iowa Hawkeyes—mostly at the insistence of his wife, Linda. He was a lifelong supporter of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, taking special pride in the Cubs’ historic World Series victory in 2016.

Cards were another favorite pastime. Chuck loved playing 4-point pitch—where he never saw a hand dealt that wasn’t at least a 3-bid—and cribbage, a game he learned from his father and later taught to his own children. A lifelong golfer, Chuck spent many happy hours on the course as a member of Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Adel, Iowa, followed by more card games in the clubhouse with cherished friends.

In quieter moments, Chuck devoured novels of all kinds—keeping his mind sharp throughout his entire life. He voraciously read mysteries, crime fiction, military history, historical novels, and westerns.

Greeting Chuck on the other side are his parents and his beloved wife, Linda. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa (David) Tetrick and Chad (Shelly) Lewis; his sister, Jan Marlin; his grandchildren, Jason, Aaron, Jonathan, Lindsey, Megan, and Samantha; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Waukee United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, with burial immediately following at Waukee Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s name to EveryStep Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa, whose staff provided exceptional peace and comfort to Chuck and his family in his final hours in hospice care.
