Charles C. Berry, 100, of Winterset, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Azria Health in Winterset.
Charles was born on October 28, 1924, in Murray, Iowa, to Omer and Thelma (Cole) Berry. He attended Lorimor Schools and graduated in 1942.
On July 4, 1944, Charles married Helen Welch. Together they raised five children: Judy, Sharon, Stephen, Debra, and Randy. In 1950, Charles and Helen began farming in rural Madison County, where they spent most of their lives working side by side.
Charles was active in his community and a member of many organizations, including the American Legion, Odd Fellows, FSA County Committee, Monroe Township Trustee, Madison County Cattlemen’s Association, and Madison County Pork Producers. In 2009, he was honored as the Madison County Outstanding Pork Producer.
He is survived by his children, Judy Farlow, Sharon Holtz (Tom Hommer), Stephen (Cheryl) Berry, Debra (David) White, and Randy (JoAnn) Berry; grandchildren, Kimberly Davis, Kevin Farlow, Mike Holtz, Doug (Susan) Holtz, Bart Berry, Bret (Carrie) Berry, Robert Wagner, Jeff Wagner, Thomas (Amanda) White, Curtis (Kaylee) Berry; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Thelma Berry; his wife, Helen; sister, Catherine Farr; brothers, Robert and Lester Berry; and grandson, Lucas Berry.
A memorial graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Winterset Cemetery.
