Carrie Ilene Hutzell

Carrie Ilean Hutzell, formerly of the Adel area, passed away in Los Angeles, California at the Veterans’ Administration Community Care Center on April 20, 2016. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at West Linn Cemetery near Linden. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Carrie was born on September 15, 1933, at the family farm near Linden, Dallas County, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth Hutzell. Carrie, also known as “Susie” to the family, enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp on April 13, 1955. She trained in Alabama and Virginia and served in Japan. She was discharged on March 1, 1957. Carrie returned to Iowa for a short time, but ultimately moved to Hollywood, California, in 1960, where she found employment with the Veterans’ Administration. She remained in Hollywood for the remainder of her life. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert R. and Edward J. and sisters, Betty Jean Pearson and Doris D. Hull. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Gilyeart of Bellevue, Washington; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hutzell and Elsie Hutzell of Adel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
