Carmen Leora Kelly

Carmen (Sater) Kelly, 85, passed away at her home on September 4, 2016. Carmen was born in Des Moines to John and Hazel Sater. She grew up on the east and south sides of Des Moines and was a 1948 graduate of Des Moines Lincoln High School. She married William (Bill) Kelly and they had seven children, Father William Jr (Bill) SDS, Barb (George) Hafkey, Joe (Colleen) Kelly, Jane (Dave) Harmon, Dan Kelly, David (Dorene) Kelly and Sue (Kirk) Strain. Carmen enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, calligraphy and bird watching. Although a homemaker most of her life she also worked at Central Life Insurance, Meredith Publishing and retired from Communications Data Services in 1992. Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings John (Bud) Sater, Alice Holton, Dick Sater, Bob Sater, Mary Sater, Russell Sater and Margaret Sherfy. Carmen is survived by all her children, grandchildren Chad, Brad, Kelly, Adam, David, Beth, Darci, Danielle, Kellen, Samantha and Lucas, 11 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Patsy Sater of Cedar Falls, IA and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. Memorial service will be on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Assumption Shrine in Churchville, Iowa. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Churchville. Memorial contributions can be made to the family or Assumption Shrine.
