Calixta Teresa Granados Cifuentes de Cifuentes, 87, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Chiantla, Guatemala, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, at UnityPoint Health - Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Calixta, affectionately known as "Mama Lichas," was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was married for 53 years to Gonzalo Cifuentes Alvarado, sharing a life filled with love, faith, and devotion. Together, they built a strong and loving family, creating cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Born in Chiantla, Guatemala, Calixta had a joyful and hardworking childhood. She cherished the time she spent helping her father travel to surrounding villages to sell the sweet bread she and her mother baked together. These formative years fostered her strong work ethic, generosity, and love for her family—qualities she carried throughout her life.

As an exceptional mother and grandmother, Mama Liche brought endless joy to her family. Her warmth and humor could light up any room, and she had a unique gift for making everyone laugh. She was also an incredible housewife, known for her unwavering dedication to her family. Mama Lichas instilled in her loved ones the importance of giving selflessly and loving unconditionally—a legacy that will endure for generations.

Calixta was a devout member of the local Evangelical Christian Church at Aldea El Pino Chiantla for many years. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found joy and purpose in serving her community and her church family.

Calixta is survived by her husband, Gonzalo Cifuentes Alvarado; her daughters, Zoila Tello, Erica Marleny, and Norma; her son, Marvin Cifuentes; her grandchildren, Hellen, Odilia, Alexander, Susy, Johnny, Sindy, Elber, Jordany, Mairyn, Franky, Lesly, Idolmy, Dejvani, Antony, and Abigail; her great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by all family members who passed before her.

Funeral services will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, IA. A burial will be held in El Pino, Chiantla, Huehuetanango.

Calixta, cariñosamente conocida como "Mama Lichas", fue una amada esposa, madre, abuela y amiga de muchos. Estuvo casada durante 53 años con Gonzalo Cifuentes Alvarado, compartiendo una vida llena de amor, fe y devoción. Juntos construyeron una familia fuerte y amorosa, creando recuerdos entrañables que vivirán por siempre en los corazones de quienes los conocieron.

Nacida en Chiantla, Guatemala, Calixta tuvo una infancia alegre y trabajadora. Atesoraba los momentos en que ayudaba a su padre a viajar a las aldeas cercanas para vender el pan dulce que ella y su madre horneaban juntas. Estos años formativos fomentaron en ella un fuerte sentido del trabajo, generosidad y amor por su familia, cualidades que mantuvo a lo largo de su vida.

Como madre y abuela excepcional, Mama Lichas trajo alegría infinita a su familia. Su calidez y sentido del humor iluminaban cualquier lugar, y tenía un don único para hacer reír a todos. También fue una increíble ama de casa, conocida por su inquebrantable dedicación a su familia. Mama Lichas inculcó en sus seres queridos la importancia de dar desinteresadamente y amar incondicionalmente, un legado que perdurará por generaciones.

Calixta fue una devota miembro de la Iglesia Cristiana Evangélica local en la Aldea El Pino, Chiantla, durante muchos años. Su fe fue la piedra angular de su vida, y encontró alegría y propósito sirviendo a su comunidad y a su familia en la iglesia.

Calixta deja en vida a su esposo, Gonzalo Cifuentes Alvarado; sus hijas, Zoila Tello, Erica Marleny y Norma; su hijo, Marvin Cifuentes; sus nietos, Hellen, Odilia, Alexander, Susy, Johnny, Sindy, Elber, Jordany, Mairyn, Franky, Lesly, Idolmy, Dejvani, Antony y Abigail; sus bisnietos; su nuera; y numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas. Le preceden en la muerte todos los miembros de su familia que partieron antes que ella.

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo el sábado 14 de diciembre de 2024, de 12:00 P.M. a 8:00 P.M., en Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory en Urbandale, IA. El entierro se realizará en El Pino, Chiantla, Huehuetenango.
