Berniece Wallace, 89, of Van Meter, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022 peacefully, surrounded by her family. A visitation will take place Monday August 15, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m.. A funeral service will be held Tuesday August 16, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel beginning at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Otterman Cemetery south of Adel. For those who may wish to watch the service via live stream please go to www.faithadel.com Berniece Ilene Wallace, the daughter of Virgil and Lela (Boone) Short was born January 19, 1933 in rural Booneville. She attended Van Meter and graduated in 1951. She then attended Northwest Missouri State and gained her credentials as a teacher. On August 7, 1955 she united in marriage to Wayne Wallace, to this union one child was born, Valerie. Berniece spent her career not only caring for her family, but caring for her students as a teacher. In numerous different schools but most recently Van Meter and Stuart-Menlo until her retirement after 35 years as a passionate educator. Berniece enjoyed being around people, many of which, grew to be a part of what she called her family. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where she was a devote Christian. She loved animals, she adored her cats and in her younger years enjoyed her horses. While everything of her interests she did she was passionate about, none other triumphed her love for Wayne and the time they spent together from everything on the farm, square dancing, traveling and above all being together with her family and friends. Her legacy will continue on in the hearts of her daughter, Valerie Wallace and her spouse Terre Kern as well as the numerous friends she called her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne and her parents. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Suncrest Hospice for support of the wonderful care they gave Berniece, and with helping other families facing end of life care, or to the Faith Lutheran Church, in continuing the spiritual support of her beloved congregation.
