Barry Dale Neubauer passed away on October 15, 2026. He was born on December 26, 1958 (his grandpa Dale Case's birthday), in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Ralph Neubauer and Elizabeth (Case) Neubauer.
Barry graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1977. After graduation, he began his career in bridge construction, working for Welden Brothers, Inc. in Iowa Falls. He learned the value of hard work and attention to detail in engineering and construction from Brad Welden, his mentor and friend. Barry mastered many skills of the trade as he continued working with United Contractors, Johnston and Godberson-Smith Construction, Ida Grove.
He planned to work until he was 70, but that plan ended when he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and retired in December 2024.
Barry was married to Carol Jass on August 16, 1980. Together, they raised two sons Matthew and Timothy in their hometowns of Iowa Falls and Alden. Time with family, baseball, football and basketball were highlights of those years.
Barry married Angie on September 6, 2019, in Des Moines. Barry and Angie loved traveling, watching Hawkeye football, the Kansas City Chiefs, and time with family and friends.
Barry's greatest joys were his family, friends and the simple things in life: early morning walks, feeding the squirrels, grilling on his patio, country music (especially Willie Nelson), watching Gunsmoke, sharing good morning messages and voicing his opinions on Facebook, as well as a lifelong love of sports.
Barry is survived by his wife, Angie of Urbandale; sons Matt (Beka) Neubauer of Alden, Tim (Jessi) Neubauer of Gilbert, Peyton (Amanda) Griesert of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Karin (Alec) Sickles of Des Moines; his mother, Beth Crabtree of Iowa Falls; aunt Phyllis (Case) and uncle Ron Buckley of Leland, North Carolina ; brother Scott (Angela) Neubauer of Mason City; sisters Natalie (Craig) Schumacher of Ankeny and Cindy Neubauer of Urbandale; grandchildren Carter, Cora, Joanna and Tate Neubauer, Maren Griesert and Presley Horak; many nieces and nephews who will cherish their memories of Uncle Barry, as well as cousins who have shared many good times together.
Barry's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, CNAs and staff of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Iowa ALS Association, Bishop Drumm Retirement Center and Methodist West Hospital, as well as many friends and family for their compassion and care throughout Barry's ALS journey.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home (8201 Hickman Rd. Urbandale, IA 50322).
There will also be a visitation on Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Highland Country Club in Iowa Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family, who will designate the funds to causes meaningful to Barry at a later date.
