Alex Garron Treft, 34, of Grand Junction, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Alex was born on June 4, 1991, in Des Moines, the son of Allen Smith and Brenda Treft. He graduated from BCLUW High School in Conrad, Iowa.

Alex had a generous heart and would do anything for anyone; he would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. He had an upbeat spirit and a gift for turning even the toughest situations into something to laugh about. Known for his humor and larger-than-life personality, Alex was often called “Wheelies” or “Big Red” by those who knew him best.

Alex had a deep appreciation for the simple things that brought him joy. He enjoyed collecting coins and found excitement in the thrill of riding-whether it was four-wheelers, dirt bikes, or motorcycles, he was always ready for his next adventure.

He also loved spending time outdoors. Kayaking, fishing, and hunting pheasants-what he jokingly referred to as “ditch chickens”-were a few of his favorite pastimes.

Alex had a love for loud music and the rumble of powerful sound systems, often listening with the volume turned all the way up in his truck. He carried a mischievous and playful spirit that made life more fun and left a lasting smile on everyone he met.

Above all, Alex loved his family wholeheartedly. He was a proud and devoted husband and father who cherished every moment with Libby and their girls.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Libby Norgart-Treft of Grand Junction; their three daughters, Shaleah “Shae,” Mercedes “Chunky,” and Elizabeth “Frog”; his mother, Brenda Treft of Des Moines; his grandmother, Dorothy Treft of Perry; his sister, Jacinta Treft (Gabe Cubillo) of West Des Moines; his aunt, Diana Treft of Perry; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Smith; his grandfather, Duane Treft; his sister, Cassidy Treft; and his best friend, who was like a brother to him, Matthew Mills.
