Alan was born on August 13, 1953 to Darold and Norma (McKenzie) Slater in Winterset, IA. Alan attended Earlham High School. No matter the task at hand, whether operating heavy machinery or lending a hand on the farm, he approached each day with dedication that was admired by all who knew him. He was a devoted heavy equipment operator, dedicating the majority of his life to the construction industry, and was still actively working at Sandstone Management in Carlisle, Iowa, at the time of his passing.

Beyond his career, Alan found joy in the great outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt, often sharing tales of adventure and the beauty he encountered while exploring nature. His passion extended to attending car shows; the vehicles always brought a sparkle to his eyes. At home, Alan took immense pride in caring for his houseplants, with a particular fondness for cacti.

Family held a special place in Alan's heart. He was a loving brother to Brian Slater of Earlham, Iowa, and Lisa (Ron) Caudle of Adel, Iowa. His joy was evident in the playful moments spent spoiling his sister's dogs during visits and cherishing the laughter shared with his niece, Amber Caudle, and nephew, Justin Caudle. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Alan is now reunited with those who have left this world before him: his parents, and his siblings, Gary Slater and Dawn Pieper. Their memories will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.
