Viola C. Brinkman Silk

Viola Otto Brinkman Silk, daughter of William T. and Kathryn Dreeszen Otto, was born November 11, 1915 in Carroll, Iowa. She graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll. On, September 2, 1940 Viola was united in marriage with Leo G. Brinkman of Early at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Carroll with Father L.J. Schenkelberg officiating. They made their home in Carroll, Iowa. She was a homemaker, taking care of the couple's three children. Mr. Brinkman died on May 14, 1974. Viola served as president of South Central Deanery (Diocesan Council of Catholic Women) for 5 years, president of St. Peter and Paul's Rosary and Alter Society in Carroll for 5 years and one year as president of the St. Lawrence Guild in Carroll. Viola married Robert Shelby Silk on June 1, 1978 at St. Patrick's Church in Perry with Father James Mc Ilhon officiating. Viola continued to do church work into her 90s. She made vestments, took care of the altar, folded bulletins and was on the foundation Board for St. Pat's in Perry. She never quit sewing and many people enjoy one of her wreaths (or several) hanging in their homes. She also enjoyed cooking and many were lucky enough to be recipients of her goodies. She lived in Perry until her death. Survivors include twin daughters Kris Mueller, Sioux City, Iowa, Kitty Edwards, Smyrna, Georgia; and son Jake Brinkman, Urbandale, Iowa. Her grandchildren: Tracey (Kendra) Cooper, Sean Cooper, Jason Cooper, Rex (Sandra) Mueller, Shelley (Jesse) Diehl, Josh (Lauren) Finken, Melissa (Cory) Floyd, Katie Brinkman, and Ashley (Skyler) Roder. And her great-grandchildren: Jackson Cooper, Lily, Lucas, and Aaron Diehl, Logan Mueller, Claire Finken, and Shyle, Breanne, Tayler, and Dareus Floyd. Her sister, Pearl Dixon of Denver, Colorado; her brother William Otto of South Lyons, Michigan. Preceded in death by parents, husbands Leo Brinkman and Robert Silk, brothers Henry Otto and Lloyd Otto, and sisters Alice Bruening and Florence Clark.
