Margaret "Maggie" Gittins, age 66 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Everyone is encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while attending visitation and services. Memorials will be given to EveryStep Hospice or John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines, IA and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Margaret "Maggie" Ann Gittins was born on August 7, 1955, at Perry, IA to Kenneth William and Betty Margaret (Lundgren) Graney. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary school and then graduated from Perry High School. She was united in marriage to Robert Lance Gittins at Perry, IA on June 28, 1980. Maggie worked at Dallas County Hospital, Acute Care in Ankeny, and then Boone County Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry. Maggie had a lot of interests and hobbies. She was a tremendous reader. She loved getting her hands in the dirt and took great pride in her gardening. The opportunity to sit in the warmth of the sunshine especially with company was something she did not pass up. Maggie and Bob loved exploring new places to eat or travel. Near or far, they had a lot of fun together and met a lot of people along the way as even strangers were drawn to the welcoming fun they exude. Maggie loved coffee and toddy hours with many, and if this couldnt happen, she was found visiting or sending cards to family and friends. Family and friends meant the world to Maggie and fueled her love for grilling and smoking meats and preparing favorite foods for many. Maggie enjoyed taking walks, watching sports, and experiencing music in any fashion. Being grandma "Nana" was a role Maggie fulfilled to the fullest. She never missed a chance to snuggle, read and play with her grandbabies and was happy to share pictures. Even when she wasnt feeling well, family and friends continued to receive her love and attention. In death she rejoins her parents Bill and Betty Graney and a brother Michael William Graney. Left to cherish Maggies memory are her husband Bob, Perry, IA, children, Erin (Heath) Hodgson, Blencoe, IA and Emily (Brandon) Yost, Perry, IA, grandchildren, Ada and Lena Hodgson and Axel Yost, brothers Timothy (Paula) Graney of St. Joseph, MO, Patrick (Marcia Murphy) Graney of Perry, IA, Joseph Graney of Panora, IA and a sister Mary Kay Delmege of Perry, IA.
