Lawrence 'Larry' McCauley, the son of Theodore Roosevelt and Dorothy Pearl (nee: Green) was born December 23, 1945 in Winterset, Iowa. He attended school in Winterset. On October 15, 1964 Larry married Janice Sue Gray, his wife of 46 years, in Van Meter, Iowa. To this union were born four children, John Eugene, Paul, Tina and Kathy. They made their home in Scranton, Iowa, for many years and then Jefferson, Iowa, where they've resided since 1989. Larry was an auto mechanic. After becoming disabled he enjoyed doing some remodeling inside his house and even constructed a shed and carport, of which he was very proud. He also enjoyed making trips to North Carolina to watch his grandchildren in sports and taking trips to the beach. Larry died peacefully with his family at his side at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Friday evening, December 17, 2010. He lived 64 years, 11 months and 24 days. Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, John; and six brothers and sisters. Those surviving to carry on Larry's memories include his wife, Janice of Jefferson; son Paul (wife, Kay) of Flintville, TN; two daughters, Kathy Turnas (husband, Spiros) of Trinity, NC and Tina Subbert (husband, Kim) of Audubon, IA; 11 grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Collin, Leah, Renie, Amanda, Taylor, Dimitrios, Panagiotis, Becky and Kristina; and siblings, Doris Pickens of Oregon, John McCauley of Winterset, Bert Kirkwood of Ankeny, Bud McCauley of Adel, Dick McCauley of Des Moines, and Kay McCauley of Des Moines. Memorial services will be Tuesday, December 21st at 6 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset . A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's name to be used at the family's discretion will be accepted. Please share a condolence or memory with the family by signing the guestbook.
