John Kennedy Vogl, 59, of Urbandale, peacefully made his way to Heaven on August 23rd, 2024, following his selfless participation in the phase 1 clinical trial for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. John was surrounded by his loving family, and in the great care of those at the Kavanagh House.
John, son of John and Adella (Hoffman) Vogl was born on February 26, 1965, in Manning, IA. John graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1983. He then furthered his education at American Institute of Business in Des Moines where he received his Associates Degree in Business, but most importantly, met his wife, Mary Jo.
John and Mary Jo were married on October 11, 1986, in Osage, Iowa. Together they had two sons, Matthew John and Brandon Michael. John, to his core, was the most loving, God-fearing family man that we will ever know. His greatest pride came from the success and love that pours out of his boys.
John spent the last six years in arguably his most favorite role…Grandpa. In his short time as Grandpa, John showered his three grandchildren with more unconditional love than most experience in a lifetime.
John was happiest surrounded by his friends whether they were riding RAGBRAI or cheering on the Hawkeyes.
To the very end, John was a man of service, inspiring everyone around him to be strong, take the chances when they come, and above all, trust in God’s plan. His participation in this clinical trial truly makes him a hero to us all, and we are proud we got to call him ours.
