Geraldine 'Jerry' Schwabe

Geraldine 'Jerry' Schwabe, 89, passed away May 12, 2011 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. A visitation will be held 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 16th, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 17th at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Memorials may be directed to the family and burial will be in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery. Jerry was born in Adair, Iowa on January 22, 1922, the daughter of Glenn and Mildred (Furstenburg) Parkinson. She graduated from Adair High School and later married Earl “Bud” Schwabe on February 10, 1944 in Maryville, MO. Jerry was a homemaker most of her life and along with Earl, managed the Bee Hive restaurant on the east edge of Winterset for several years. During World War II, she worked as a governess for a family in California while her husband was in the service, stationed at San Bernadino and prior to this she worked at the movie theater in Adair. She and Earl moved to North Ward Plaza in 1980 and she continued to live there until 2006 when she moved in with her daughter. While living at North Ward, she was active in the North Ward Plaza Group serving as its President for many years. When she was younger, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and especially enjoyed crafting, sewing many blankets, toaster covers and making doorstops which looked like miniature sofas. Jerry is survived by her children, Glenn Schwabe of Wichita, KS; Dennis (Pam) Schwabe of Winterset; Rick Schwabe of Altoona and Cindy (Scott) Aukes of Winterset; and a former son-in-law, Martin Clark. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren (Danny; Doug and Christa; Chad and Stephanie; April and Rachel; Patrick Emery; Rodger; Amanda; Michele; Mike and Jeanette; Ben; Danyelle; Amber and Daryl; Tammy and Rob; Tanya; Samantha and Katlin), 34 great-grandchildren (Ryan, Josh, Caleb, Lane, Kylar, McKayla, Donavon Holder, Jayden, Heather, Sebastian, Miranda, Ashley, Patricia, Austin, Jessica, Dylon, Katrina, Autumn, Zack, Peyton, Araya, Korie, Jayden, Pheonix, August, Emilia, Alidia, Alec, James, Draven, Haylee, Xander, Payten and Avaya) and 2 great great-grandchildren (Christopher and Alivia). She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1989.
