Obituary for Robert W Park

Robert Worth Park, passed away on June 14th, 2017 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab, of natural causes.

Robert was born on February 20, 1926 to Robert G. Park and Berta (Crabb) Park, in Denver, Colorado.

Growing up, he loved hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and was a member of a Denver hiking club, climbing to the top of Longs Peak, and was also active in the Boy Scouts. He also loved to do home science experiments, once creating fireworks in his basement.

After high school, he attended the University of Denver where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then attended graduate school at Iowa State University, receiving his PhD in Biochemistry. During that time he married Marilyn Ruth Morton. They had one daughter, Debra.
He later married Linn Hansen. They had two children, David and Lisa. Both marriages ended in divorce.

Robert's career included Cancer Research Scientist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, Chemistry Professor at Benedict College in Columbia, SC and Texas College in Tyler, TX, and Research Scientist at Texas A&M University.

In later years, Robert lived in Truth or Consequences, NM and continued his love and study of science. Dancing was also a great passion, being very active in Contra Dance, as well as gardening and local politics. When he could no longer care for himself, he moved to Norwalk, IA to be close to family.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Debra Campbell; granddaughter Tanya (Randy) Davis; grandson Brian (Amy) Shute; twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great granddaughters, a nephew and a niece.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, July 2nd at 2 pm at Norwalk City Park, 907 North Ave, Norwalk IA.

The family wants to thank the caring staff at Norwalk Nursing & Rehab for the many years of care he received there.
